If you owned a Web site over any period of time, chances are good that you understand the importance of hotlink protection. Thousands of leechers hotlinking can be quickly and build a huge bandwidth bills. I always make sure to configure the hotlink protection of my sites, but yesterday was surprised to find that one of my sites murmuring of bandwidth.
This particular site, WordPress blog, typically uses 2 GB data transfer per month, but passed through 6 GB and uses quite a bit of memory. As it turns out I forgot to install the hotlink protection after switching Server providers several months ago. I was lucky enough to catch the problem before it became much worse. Lesson learned: never hurts to double-check your Hotlink Protection.
